Mi Maestra

My favorite teacher Maria Alejandra. We´ve been working on Español together for six weeks. She looks too serious here! lol

Ah, she´s more exuberant in this one. We have a lot of fun together while learning too!

Another beautiful shot.

Ruinas de Parque Nacional Tikal

The Ruins of Tikal National Park are quite ancient, around the 4th to 6th Century, and reflect quite a sophisticated Mayan Civilization.

My friend Luis and Me on top of one of the temples. It was a beautiful, sunny, and hot day!

What a climb to the top nearing 160 feet!!!

A magnificent view of the tops of other temples peaking out of the rain forests.

It was quite mysterious exploring the remnants of such an ancient civilization.

A nice shot in front of the great temple on the plaza mayor.

A nearby cave that we also explored. Quite Amazing...

Learning Textiles in Momos

The wonderful Thelma and Luis hosted a group of spanish students from our school on a trip to their home in Momostenango to learn how they make various tejidos or textiles.

Hard at work learning to weave or tejer.

Very warm and photogenic!!

Showing off the finished products. How beautiful!

I am really thankful for Luis and Thelma´s generosity. They are really great. I was even able to buy some really beautiful stoles from them that I will proudly wear once I´m ordained.

Volcán Santa Maria

During my first week in Xela we had great fun climbing the nearby volcano.

The view of the Quetzaltenango valley from Santa Maria.

It was rather mysterious to be on top of the volcano/world!

Fuentes Georginas

The "George Fountains" near Zunil, Guatemala originate in mountain springs heated by the nearby volcanoes. As you can tell they are really beautiful. I didn't want to leave to go back for my afternoon Spanish class. (-;
